Throughout our lives we spend time tweaking and moving the pieces of life around to best reflect the true journey we feel we are on.. I have found an interesting parallel between re landscaping my property and re landscaping my life.

I started out with a rough drawing of what I envisioned for my property…the fencing, the gates, the trees and the lighting. I’ve rearranged the trees a dozen times, and redirected the fencing to reflect the message I’m trying to convey with my homes new ‘look’. Clean lines, uncluttered, confident and bold yet unique and intriguing.

Coincidentally, the same process took place when I reimagined my new life, making changes, updating the ‘contact list’, rearranging the furniture, and creating new boundaries.

The rough drawing I started with for my new home, resembled the rough drawing of my new life. It represented everything I wanted, but I wasn't sure how it was all going to come together in the end.

So I dove head first into the main ‘parts’ of the project and had faith that the smaller parts would eventually fall into place. I planted trees and then hoped the patio decking would design itself around them.

Simultaneously, I let go of my personal toxic ‘foundation’ and proceeded to build a new foundation much healthier and stronger than the one before.

I found it uncanny how the two journeys paralleled each other.

New trees were planted.

Toxic friendships were uprooted.

New fencing was erected to more clearly define the boundaries of the property.

And new boundaries were drawn in my personal life to eliminate draining friendships, and replace them with loving, positive ones.

I’m not sure if redesigning my property inspired the re designing of my life….or if it was the other way around. Either way, the journeys not only compliment each other, but they inspire each other.

It’s about boundaries.

It’s about priorities.

It’s about balance.

And it’s about what makes your heart smile.

I started with a home that was, unkept, in disrepair, and in desperate need of love and validation.

And although I didn't see it at the time….my home started with the very same traits….in me.

But that’s just my opinion. :)
